Applying the Python re-implementation of Soroye et al. 2020's pipeline to an independent regional dataset of 36,560 Bombus occurrence records from the Iberian Peninsula confirms the headline thermal-exposure → extirpation relationship: the standardised TEI-delta coefficient is positive, large, and highly significant in both a plain logistic regression and a mixed-effects model with species random effect. The Iberian coefficient (+0.48) is approximately three times larger in magnitude than the continental mean recovered in Phase 2 (+0.15), consistent with the prediction that species reaching their warm range limit (as many Bombus species do on the Iberian Peninsula) are particularly vulnerable to increasing thermal exposure. The claim therefore replicates regionally and with a stronger effect than the continental mean.

Mixed-effects logistic GLMM (statsmodels.BinomialBayesMixedGLM, variational Bayes) on 528 species × cell observations across 31 Bombus species and 99 sampled cells in Spain and Portugal yielded sc_TEI_delta = +0.4792 with 95% credible interval [0.266, 0.693], unambiguously positive. A plain logistic regression on the same data gave sc_TEI_delta = +0.2943 (p = 0.007). The hot-edge baseline coefficient sc_TEI_bs is also positive and highly significant (+0.61, p < 0.001), consistent with Soroye's prediction that species near their warm range limit are more vulnerable. Overall extirpation rate in the Iberian analysis subset was 35.6%.
