A retraction is itself a small nanopublication, signed with the same identity, stating that the earlier one no longer stands. Superseding works the same way but additionally provides a corrected version that declares itself the successor of the old one. In both cases the original is not deleted — nanopublications are immutable — but services and user interfaces recognize the retraction or new version and act accordingly, for example by hiding the outdated one from listings. Tools like Nanodash offer this with a few clicks.

If the nanopublication is somebody else's, you cannot retract it, as retractions are only valid when signed with the same identity as the original. What you can do is publish your own nanopublication that comments on, disputes, or corrects the claim, which then becomes part of the public record alongside the original. You can also contact the author, who can then retract or supersede it themselves. This mirrors how corrections work in science generally: errors are not silently edited away, but addressed transparently and attributably.
https://w3id.org/np/RARplnH5vXPc_Ew5Ub0jSI_pjPvl3gDSMkw_5fKzb3ivc/provenance https://w3id.org/np/RARplnH5vXPc_Ew5Ub0jSI_pjPvl3gDSMkw_5fKzb3ivc/assertion http://www.w3.org/ns/prov#wasAttributedTo https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1267-0234 https://w3id.org/np/RARplnH5vXPc_Ew5Ub0jSI_pjPvl3gDSMkw_5fKzb3ivc/pubinfo https://w3id.org/np/RARplnH5vXPc_Ew5Ub0jSI_pjPvl3gDSMkw_5fKzb3ivc http://purl.org/dc/terms/created 2026-06-11T07:28:53Z https://w3id.org/np/RARplnH5vXPc_Ew5Ub0jSI_pjPvl3gDSMkw_5fKzb3ivc http://purl.org/dc/terms/creator https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1267-0234 https://w3id.org/np/RARplnH5vXPc_Ew5Ub0jSI_pjPvl3gDSMkw_5fKzb3ivc http://purl.org/dc/terms/license https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ https://w3id.org/np/RARplnH5vXPc_Ew5Ub0jSI_pjPvl3gDSMkw_5fKzb3ivc http://purl.org/nanopub/x/hasNanopubType http://schema.org/Question https://w3id.org/np/RARplnH5vXPc_Ew5Ub0jSI_pjPvl3gDSMkw_5fKzb3ivc http://purl.org/nanopub/x/supersedes https://w3id.org/np/RA2qUAICDkzuxkT9vFC-aOzLRt1g5Sv-is71T6SNjM5dk https://w3id.org/np/RARplnH5vXPc_Ew5Ub0jSI_pjPvl3gDSMkw_5fKzb3ivc http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#label FAQ: If I find an error in a nanopublication (whether my own or not), what should I do about it? https://w3id.org/np/RARplnH5vXPc_Ew5Ub0jSI_pjPvl3gDSMkw_5fKzb3ivc https://w3id.org/np/o/ntemplate/wasCreatedFromProvenanceTemplate https://w3id.org/np/RA7lSq6MuK_TIC6JMSHvLtee3lpLoZDOqLJCLXevnrPoU https://w3id.org/np/RARplnH5vXPc_Ew5Ub0jSI_pjPvl3gDSMkw_5fKzb3ivc https://w3id.org/np/o/ntemplate/wasCreatedFromPubinfoTemplate https://w3id.org/np/RACJ58Gvyn91LqCKIO9zu1eijDQIeEff28iyDrJgjSJF8 https://w3id.org/np/RARplnH5vXPc_Ew5Ub0jSI_pjPvl3gDSMkw_5fKzb3ivc https://w3id.org/np/o/ntemplate/wasCreatedFromPubinfoTemplate https://w3id.org/np/RAoTD7udB2KtUuOuAe74tJi1t3VzK0DyWS7rYVAq1GRvw https://w3id.org/np/RARplnH5vXPc_Ew5Ub0jSI_pjPvl3gDSMkw_5fKzb3ivc https://w3id.org/np/o/ntemplate/wasCreatedFromPubinfoTemplate https://w3id.org/np/RAukAcWHRDlkqxk7H2XNSegc1WnHI569INvNr-xdptDGI https://w3id.org/np/RARplnH5vXPc_Ew5Ub0jSI_pjPvl3gDSMkw_5fKzb3ivc https://w3id.org/np/o/ntemplate/wasCreatedFromTemplate https://w3id.org/np/RAUneCxaT_JQhs4XK8yFhSm5JGmAMgn8k6zBkWB2pp3BI https://w3id.org/np/RARplnH5vXPc_Ew5Ub0jSI_pjPvl3gDSMkw_5fKzb3ivc/sig http://purl.org/nanopub/x/hasAlgorithm RSA https://w3id.org/np/RARplnH5vXPc_Ew5Ub0jSI_pjPvl3gDSMkw_5fKzb3ivc/sig http://purl.org/nanopub/x/hasPublicKey MIGfMA0GCSqGSIb3DQEBAQUAA4GNADCBiQKBgQCwUtewGCpT5vIfXYE1bmf/Uqu1ojqnWdYxv+ySO80ul8Gu7m8KoyPAwuvaPj0lvPtHrg000qMmkxzKhYknEjq8v7EerxZNYp5B3/3+5ZpuWOYAs78UnQVjbHSmDdmryr4D4VvvNIiUmd0yxci47dTFUj4DvfHnGd6hVe5+goqdcwIDAQAB https://w3id.org/np/RARplnH5vXPc_Ew5Ub0jSI_pjPvl3gDSMkw_5fKzb3ivc/sig http://purl.org/nanopub/x/hasSignature geP0EkcIKrGJxdHGmdg9GjKeHdXXBgtEKGQijugRkSCR/ufkceMd1OiOjIv7BRtPeUQMuZ/++plhW4Vc0A2ro5lVlkmD6Bzq5LcmcPVTJJk4N9lyQ5i3DbKQFb0eTAI9Gbl6e8Sdh1eehnG6YtDsXm89zFBpqX/OcoLinkWtukQ= https://w3id.org/np/RARplnH5vXPc_Ew5Ub0jSI_pjPvl3gDSMkw_5fKzb3ivc/sig http://purl.org/nanopub/x/hasSignatureTarget https://w3id.org/np/RARplnH5vXPc_Ew5Ub0jSI_pjPvl3gDSMkw_5fKzb3ivc https://w3id.org/np/RARplnH5vXPc_Ew5Ub0jSI_pjPvl3gDSMkw_5fKzb3ivc/sig http://purl.org/nanopub/x/signedBy https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1267-0234
