This is the central finding from a study of 66 Bombus species across North America and Europe (1901–2014). The authors used a species-specific Climatic Position Index to show that thermal extremes exceeding historical tolerances drive bumblebee decline. We replicate this for the Iberian Peninsula using GBIF occurrence data and ERA5 climate reanalysis.
